The Shekel in figures - August 2026
Shekel Review — August 2026
August reversed July's correction. The shekel strengthened against every major currency.
USD/ILS fell from 3.0590 to 2.9880, touching 2.9500 mid-month — its firmest level of the summer. Sterling eased from 4.1161 to 4.0463 and the euro from 3.5237 to 3.4658. Meitav noted that the shekel had resumed its position as the world's strongest currency over the month.
Looking ahead: the Bank of Israel cut its benchmark rate to 3.25% on September 1st, and the Fed, ECB, BoE and Bank of Canada all set rates within a week of each other. Watch for volatility over the Chagim, when many traders in Israel close positions before extended breaks.
